Birthday Wishes to A. G. Russell
From Nick Trbovich, Jr. President and CEO Ontario Knife Co., Chairman and CEO Queen Cutlery
There is a story behind the story of this impressive A. G. Russell 2008 Knife Event. Last night I was privileged to be among those attending a packed banquet hall for dinner that (unbeknown to A. G.) turned into a very well planned and orchestrated tribute/roast and birthday celebration for A. G. who will be turning 75 years young on August 27th.
Among the evening tributes was an entertaining video presentation partially narrated by A. G.’s grandson. I hope that the video will be downloaded to the internet so that everyone can get a glimpse of it. Several friends and cutlery titans told stories that all shared a common theme which can best be summarized by B. R. Hughes who stated…”NO single person in the world of cutlery has done more for the cutlery world than A. G. Russell.”
The show has been excellent and I too have been impressed with its organization and hospitality. Goldie, Kim, Debbie, Susan and the entire A. G. Russell team has truly outdone themselves.
I highly reccommend that if you are within 100 miles of Rogers, Arkansas…GET IN YOUR CAR NOW! You will not be dissappointed. The show is open until 4pm.
If you are unable to attend and would like to extend your birthday wishes to A. G. or share an A. G. story (we heard quite a few last night),… Please blog on.

The show was great for a first time show. It does have a lot of potential to be a great show. I made several contacts in the midwest that I didn’t have. Everyone seemed really happy with our product for the ones that had not seen us yet. I will be back next year and hope you do the same.

A.G.’s 75th Birthday dinner was also a huge success. Dan Dennehy presented A.G. with a picture of himself planting a kiss on “The Illustrious One”, Bob Loveless, and also with a handmade sheep shear knife.
Benchmade Knives, Case, and Tim Leatherman also presented things to A.G.
B.R. Hughes and several A.G. Russell employees shared memories, and wished A.G. Happy Birthday.

I’ve had a great time here in Rogers, AR helping to celebrate A.G.’s 75th. Met a lot of loyal LEATHERMAN users and signed lots of LEATHERMAN tools! Thanks and looking forward to seeing you again one of these days.

The Grand Wizard of Knives has done it again! The Grand Wizard with his faithful guide, Goldie has pulled off a feat of magic!
I was called on to appear at the show on short notice. No telling what ill fate would befall you if you failed to heed the wizard’s request. All kidding aside, the show is well done and will continue as a great success. The cameraderie and some of the old faces are very reminiscent of Kansas City.
I’ll be back next year!

This has been a really good and fun show. We have met new people and acquired new customers. This has been the most pleasant show we have been to and we have been to alot of them. The most well run, no one else has gone to the trouble to set it up for us this well. This has been a successful show. We will be back next year. It can only get better! Thanks A. G. we don’t know why you waited so long.

Any knife show is by definition a great time……BUT, This has been one of the best of the best …a great venue, a great crowd, and the show is run by people who have been exhibitors often enough to know how to make everyone comfortable…..I saw one of the prettiest pieces of steel I have ever seen today and I have had a tremendous time shooting bull with old friends and new….all in all a perfect jewel of a show!!!!!!Be here next year!!!

This show is the way a true knife show should be.
It’s comfort for the supplier, superlative advertising, and good people to deal with.
Kudos to Goldie and A.G. for not only a knife show, but a knife extravaganza.
See you next year,
Jim Fray

I am currently attending the A.G. Russell Knife Event, which is a first of many based upon the traffic and the interest in knives. Everything has been done first rate, from hotel accommodations to booth space. And ultimately what we have all came here for, which is to sell our products.

I’ve been to a lot of shows, one that would come close was held in Milan, Italy - but this even tops it.
Collectors really ought to consider coming here, because this venue is unbelievable.
The guest rooms are nice and big - with a sofa and desk.
Having a great time - everybody make plans to attend next year, July 24th - 26th.
